Elevate Your Eyebrows with Eyebrow Lamination

March 18, 2024 (9mo ago)

me getting my eyebrows laminated

Time to talk about one of my favorite beauty regimes/hacks.

Eyebrow lamination.

Everyone should be doing eyebrow lamination. I believe this so wholeheartedly that I almost want to get my license just to do this on my friends and family.

Your eyebrows just are better this way. If you have thin eyebrows, it's make them thicker and more filled out.

If you have thick eyebrows it makes them more manageable.

It's just a win-win all around.

I fall into the category of thicker eyebrows or just have a lot of eyebrows, but I've been a on JOURNEY to get here.

My eyebrows used to be teeeny tiny, thin, just how everyone else did in the highschool. We were convinced that thick eyebrows were out, and to have them razor thin was in.

Eyebrow Lamination > Microblading

Almost 6 years ago I got my eyebrows microbladed. It was the hands down the worst beauty decision of my life. I'm going to do a whole blog on this alone, because there's so much I want to share with you about my journey, and help others who may be in the same shoes that I was in with trying to get it removed.

But here we are now, happy and in love with laminating the eyebrow. And this I believe is here to stay, like getting your nails done or getting your hair glossed. It just makes sense.

What is Eyebrow Lamination?

It's a cosmetic procedure that involves setting the eyebrow hairs in a particular shape using a chemical solution.

This helps create fuller, more defined eyebrows by lifting and taming unruly hairs, giving them a sleek, uniform appearance.

Why I Love Eyebrow Lamination

The best part is that it can last 4-6 weeks, so you don't have to go so so often. You can also go longer if it doesn't bother you to not have your eyebrows perfectly malleable.

I'm someone who doesn't wear a lot of makeup, hardly any on a daily basis. When I do, I'm wearing Merit. But when I'm not the other 90% of the time, I'm just making sure my brows are perfectly brushed.

When my eyebrows are laminated, they set without me having to force them in the direction that I need them to go.

Eyebrow lamination also gives my face a natural lifted effect.

The process is painless. The appointment can be anywhere from 45 minutes to an hour an a half. Depending on the artist and what all is included with your lamination.

Your eyebrow lamination appointment could just be for lamination only, or for waxing, shaping and tinting as well. So definitely find out what is included with the price and what you are willing to pay for.

You want to avoid any retinol based creams/products for up to two weeks before. As well as any glycolic and alpha hydroxy acids (AHAs).

The Lamination Process

An eyebrow lamination appointment may look like this:

  1. consultation - where you talk with the eyebrow lamination expert about the goal of your eyebrows.
  2. preparation - they will then cleanse your brows and clean up any oil or makeup.
  3. application of lifting cream - a gentle lifting cream is applied to the eyebrow hairs, to help soften the hair structure, making it easier to manipulate.
  4. shaping - a brow brush or comb is then used to shape the eyebrows and set them in the desired position. This is when you can craft them to be set more to the side or more upwards.
  5. setting - a setting lotion is applied to the eyebrows to help hold the eyebrows in place and maintain the desired shape.
  6. neutralizing - after the setting lotion has been applied, the neutralizing solution is applied to neutralize the effects of the lifting cream and set the brows in their new shape.
  7. tinting - after neutralizing is typically tinting where tint can be applied to help enhance the eyebrow color and definition.
  8. waxing and shaping - if you desire waxing or shaping done to your eyebrows, it's typically done after the lamination is set and the tint is applied.
  9. nourishing - the final step is when a nourishing serum or oil is applied to the eyebrows to moisturize and condition the hair.

After this you typically check out. It can cost anywhere from $95-$115 (from what I've seen in South Florida). Then I tip 20% on top of this.

It's such a therapeutic and relaxing beauty service. I love getting to lie down for an hour and tune out the world, or talk with my eyebrow babe.

Post Eyebrown Lamination Care

The only rules that you must follow in order to get the most out of your eyebrow lamination is to not get them wet, or let steam get near them for the first 24-hours post your appointment. Your technician may also recommend putting caster oil on the brows once daily, or periodically.

Caster oil can help nourish and condition the brows, promoting healthier and fuller-looking brows. It contains fatty acids that moisturize and strengthen the hair, which can help after the chemical process of lamination. Caster oil also helps GROW you hair. Which is pretty great, and I've seen significant growth from using it often.

The best part about eyebrow lamination is is that my eyebrows are ready to go every single morning without trying to glue them down into place. Seriously, it's the best waking up and them being in the perfect position.

It's nice just taking a spoolie and moving them ever so slightly if I'm looking to have them more upwards or downwards.

I do have to tint after a few weeks, but this is just a personal preference as I like my eyebrows darker than the color that they are.

Do Your Research

Finding an experienced technician is key in this process. Make sure they have experience, maybe read through client reviews, ensure that they have good hygiene and safety practices and use reputable products.

Definitely check with your technician on the be post-procedure care that they recommend. Everyone is a little different.

And please reach out to me if you have any questions! I've been laminating my brows for the last two years, and it's something I just simply cannot get enough of.

Omg also to note, please do not try this at home. I just have to preface this as many people believe that they can laminate their eyebrows on their own, but have heard one too many horror stories. Just don't do it. Go see a professional. Many professionals won't even touch eyebrows that have undergone an at home lamination kit.

Can't wait to hear if you're eyebrow lammy obsessed like me!
